JOANNA MAcGREGOR

Joanna MacGregorJoanna MacGregor came to Wendover Music in our 1996 season, when one of the highlights of her visit was a performance of some Bach. We are thrilled to invite her back, and her recital will, as usual, have a varied and exciting programme and will conclude with a performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations; the programme will include Django Bates's Three Jazz Pieces.

Joanna MacGregor has an international career and her worldwide performances have included appearances with the Rotterdam, Oslo and Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestras, and the Sydney, Berlin and London Symphony Orchestras. In America she has performed with the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Philharmonic Orchestras. The many eminent conductors with whom she has collaborated include Sir Colin Davis, Simon Rattle and Michael Tilson Thomas. Recent concerts have included recitals in Berlin, the Musiekcentrum Vredenberg, Valencia, Skopje in Macedonia, the Belgrade Festival, the Concertgebouw in Haarlem and the Penderecki Festival in Warsaw. After making her conducting debut last year she has been appointed guest Artistic Director of the Britten Sinfonia.

Joanna has premiered many landmark compositions in contemporary music, working with, among others, Harrison Birtwistle, Pierre Boulez, John Adams and Lou Harrison. She collaborates regularly with jazz artists Django Bates and Andy Sheppard, and in late 2002 tours China with Jin Xing's Contemporary Dance Theatre, with her own score written for Chinese traditional instruments as well as computer technology.

Her own record label, SoundCircus, records music from Bach to John Cage. Her latest recording, Play, has received enormous critical acclaim; her newest orchestral release, Neural Circuits, includes the music of Nitin Sawhney and Arvo Part.
