Benjamin FrithBENJAMIN FRITH was encouraged by his teacher, Fanny Waterman, to pursue a musical career after winning the UK Dudley National Piano Competition at fourteen. Today he has made seventeen solo discs (including somehighly praised Mendelssohn) and performed with many of the great orchestras and conductors. At twenty he became a Mozart Memorial Prize winner and was invited by Sir Peter Pears to appear at the Aldeburgh Festival. He achieved international recognition by sharing top prize in the 1986 Busoni International Piano Competition, and first prize in the 1989 Artur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition, making his debut at the Edinburgh Festival in 1992 with Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. A life long interest in chamber music was realised in his becoming a member of the Gould Piano Trio in 1998.

The YOUNG CONCERT ARTISTS' TRUST (YCAT) was set up in 1984 to identify, nurture and promote outstanding classical soloists and chamber ensembles at the beginning of their professional careers. Previous artists who have come to Wendover under this scheme include Steven Osborne, Paul Lewis and the Belcea String Quartet, each of whom have now considerable concert hall reputations and busy recording schedules; the last two named have been invited back to Wendover Music after their initial appearance under the YCAT scheme.
